Piano lessons in Narellan

Piano is one of the most popular instruments we teach, and for good reason. At Narellan Music Centre, piano lessons are one-on-one and shaped around the student, for ages 5 through to adult, from a first note to AMEB exams. Private lessons start from $49 for 30 minutes at our Somerset Avenue studio, and you can book a trial lesson before you enrol.

What you will learn

Every student is different, so every lesson is paced to them. As a guide, here is how a piano journey usually unfolds with weekly lessons.

  • Beginner. Reading notes, a comfortable hand position, first songs, rhythm and a practice habit that sticks.
  • Intermediate. Both hands together, chords and scales, pedalling, and pieces you genuinely want to play.
  • Advanced. Repertoire across classical and contemporary, theory, sight-reading, and exam or performance preparation.

Private or group

Most pianists learn one-on-one, because piano is a personal instrument and progress is fastest when the lesson is shaped entirely around you. Private lessons run for 30 minutes weekly, with longer lessons available on request.

Group lessons are a friendly, more affordable way to start, especially for siblings or friends learning together. Tell us what suits your family and we will match you with the right instructor.

Exam pathways, only if you want them

For students who thrive on a goal, our instructors prepare AMEB and Rockschool piano grades, covering repertoire, technical work, aural training, sight-reading and mock exams. It is a clear way to measure progress and build real discipline.

Just as many students never sit an exam, and that is completely fine. Plenty of people simply want to play the music they love, and our teachers meet you exactly where you are.

Good to know

Piano lesson questions, answered

What age can my child start piano lessons?

Most children are ready for one-on-one piano from around age 5, once they can sit and focus for a short lesson. Younger children aged 3 to 5 start beautifully in our Mini Musos early-childhood classes and move into piano lessons when they are ready.

Do we need a piano at home to start?

Not for the first lesson. To make real progress a keyboard or piano at home matters, and we are happy to advise on a good starter keyboard before you spend much. A weighted 88-key instrument is ideal but not essential to begin.

How long does it take to learn piano?

Most beginners are playing simple two-hand pieces within a few months of weekly lessons and steady practice. Piano rewards consistency, so ten to fifteen minutes most days beats one long session each week.

Do you prepare students for AMEB piano exams?

Yes. For students who want them, our instructors prepare AMEB and Rockschool grades, covering repertoire, technique, aural training and sight-reading. Many students also learn purely for enjoyment, with no exams at all.

Do you teach adults and complete beginners?

Absolutely. We teach plenty of adult pianists, from complete beginners to players returning after years away. Lessons are paced entirely to you, with no pressure and no audience.
